Every year, horticultural crops are at risk of devastanting nematodes attacks, especially on transplanted young plants on exhausted soils .
They are funny animals, aren’t they?
But their damages can be several and substantial:
1) Direct damages such as punctures (3-4 at seconds), plant cells death, galls formations, ecc… with consequent reduction of the functionality of the damaged tissues;

2) Facilitation of pathogen settlement: Fusarium spp; Agrobacterium tumefaciens; Pseudomonas spp; Rhizoctonia spp;

Economic losses caused by nematodes are very relevant.
Think about it: in Italy, for tomatoes, the losses are 25% on average, with peaks of 60% in some areas.
Economic losses are caused by:
– reduction in the yield and quality of production
– cost directly supported for the control of nematodes
– lost revenues due to the necessity of rotation with crops which are less profitable
– Higher costs for crops care (irrigation, fertilizers, ecc.) to compensate the reduced functionality of the roots.
How to fight nematodes?
The control of nematodes is not simple, for several reasons:
– resistance to adverse environmental conditions through hibernation
– difficulty in the diagnosis
– difficulty in achieving and identifying all forms in the cultivated soil
– presence of population resistant to chemical agents
These points and the reduced number of chemical molecules, made their eradication from soil almost impossible. To achieve this, it is necessary to adopt techniques and methods that involve biological vacuum of the soils. This fact, facilitates development and occurence of numerous other pathogens, due to the absence of their natural enemies.
Some natural enemies of nematodes, which are an eco-compatible aid to chemistry, are : fungus, bacteria, insects, other nematodes, viruses, ecc.
If the soil is fertile, vital and full of organic substance, the populations of this organisms will be present to contain the ramp of parasitic nematodes.
Ssome fungus in particular are able to build real traps with their hyphae, preparing a kind of network to trap and capture nematodes.
“Pochar” is a nutritive solution by SACOM which is completely biological, because there are nematopathogens fungus belonging to the genera “Pochonia” and “Arthrobotrys”.
This product is a fertilizer acting-stress in a liquid formulation, used in preventive way and in case of nematodes attacks. In the first case cubes or alveolar trays or young, erboree plants roots are immersed in a specific and appropriate solution. However, in case of attack, it is possibile to intervene using “Pochar” by the traditional techniques of fertigation.

Today we discuss of:
1. How is delicate and important is the tansplant for a healthy growth of plants;
2. The SACOM nutrient solutions, microbial-based, allowing it to obtain the best results from this topical moment.
Following the transplant, in fact, the young plants are subjected to numerous biotic or abiotic stresses, which pose a serious risk for the following reasons:
diminished ability of engraftment;
slowing of growth itself;
deterioration in quality and quantity of production.
The biotic stress are attacks by pathogens present in soil (Fusarium sp, sp Phytophtora, Pythium sp, sp, Rhizoctonia, Sclerotinia sp, Verticillium, etc. …) that can cause serious injury or death in a short time, as in the case described in picture 1.
However, abiotic stresses are mainly those deriving from the strong environmental change which undergoes the root system following the transplant. This determines a period, longor short of settling and acclimatization, that translates into a slowing down of the growth of plants.
SACOM SpA, thanks to the constant micro-biotechnology research (in collaboration with prestigious universities), has developed innovative products and low environmental impact, from the beginning that promotes the development of young plants, reducing occurencies stress.
Following its mission to use natural elements to serve modern agriculture and environment, summarized by the slogan “BY NATURE FOR NATURE,” Sacom now presents the products provided by the Protocol of fertilizer for vegetable transplants: radical bathing with Clonotri + NUTRYACTION and application of MICOSEED PLUS at the time of transplantation.
1) CLONOTRI + NUTRYACTION
These two products together create the right conditions to help the growth of young plants in a healthy and balanced way, creating a natural and useful microflora and a nutriment from the earliest stages of development.
Clonotri is an excellent solution to stimulate the development of the plants in the early stages of development, favoring a rapid rooting and acclimatization to ground, following the transplant.
METHOD OF USE:
Immerse before transplantation, the alveolar trays in a solution containing 150 ml of Clonotri + 150 ml of NUTRYACTION, leave to drain and proceed with the transplant. Use the remaining solution in fertigation.
Clonotri, promotes a rapid rooting and acclimatization to the ground after the transplant, reducing stress phenomena of post-transplant. The result is a plant more developed, well nourished, healthy and balanced.
The use of the NUTRYACTION, thanks to its mainly organic composition, allows a more rapid and effective activation of the microorganisms present in Clonotri.
The second step of our protocol provides for fertilization, at the time of transplantation, the use of MICOSEED PLUS product containing viable spores of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (100 spores / g) of the genus Glomus.
MICOSEED PLUS is also enriched with bacteria of the rhizosphere PGPR that can create an environment wich leads to mycorrhization and encourage the development of the plants through a increase in the radical volume.
Mycorrhizae are a symbiotic association, a mutual type, between some soil fungi and plant roots. The effect of mycorrhization is essentially a powerful multiplication of the surface and radical volume (up to +700 / 800% compared to the usual) that translates into an extraordinary resistance to water stress. A plant with a developed radical system certanly will be healthier and vigorous.
Recent studies have shown, that from a plant with mycchorizae is possible to obtain an increase in production equal to 20%, and a higher quality (more antioxidants, more sugars and more aromatic substances).

METHOD OF USE:
Preparation of substrates and soils: Simply mix 10 kg/m3 of substrate from pot before sowing or transplanting.
Transplantation of horticultural crops in the open field: Distribute a localized through microgranulator an amount between 15-20 Kg / Ha of product.
Transplantation of greenhouse crops: Spread 1.5 to 2 grams per plant or 2-5 Kg/1000 sqm localized near the roots.

We are talking about fertigation, the fusion between irrigation and fertilization.
This technique is very common in those areas of Italy where the optimal management of the water due to its scarcity is essential to obtain a satisfactory production. We are talking especially of the central-southern Italy, where the techinique of fertigaion is commonly used for the main vegetable crops (tomato, marrows, eggplant, onions, etc …) and arboreal ones.
The modern irrigation systems allow a more precise and more efficient water localization, for which the volume of the wet ground where the root system develops is more limited but more intensive. Think how much water can be saved by new systems in comparison to old techniques!
So what happens if the economic benefit of saving water is combined to the functional advantage of a more effective fertilizer? Simple: we apply fertigation, or the incorporation of fertilizers in water and the performing of their delivery through the irrigation system!
